The PES Residency Program is a year-long program for mid-career to established artists that is intended to cultivate social engagement, awareness, and change via contemporary art practices. The mission of the program is multifaceted and is intended to benefit both artists-in-residence and a larger audience or public. First and foremost, the program is put in place to support artists both through introduction of new conceptual material and through engagement with new audiences. Within this aim, the program strives to create a symbiotic relationship between the artist and audience as a conduit for new artistic practice and intervention. The program’s final mission is to expose and encourage social discourses and narratives that are often overlooked or uncomfortable.
Residents will incorporate modes of social engagement and community interaction throughout their stay. They will also present the culmination of their efforts in solo exhibitions towards the completion of their cycle.
The PES Residency Program is hosted at Gateway Project Spaces in downtown Newark, NJ.
