About Constellation Bench
Created by Eirini Linardaki, Constellation Bench is the first sculpture in Newark Grounds, a collaborative initiative connecting nearly 100 public artworks and cultural spaces through a walkable corridor across Newark.
Inspired by community engagement and the theme of Collective Belonging, the star-shaped sculpture serves as both seating and a gathering space, inviting connection, programming, and shared experiences. Drawing on the imagery of constellations—ancient systems of navigation and connection—its radiating arms symbolize the many cultures and stories that converge in Newark. Rooted in openness and inclusion, the work creates a welcoming landmark that celebrates the power of public space to bring people together.
